Weight Loss for Diabetes Prevention
According to People, Kathy Bates is feeling much healthier than she has in years because she was able to lose 60 pounds and reduce her risk of diabetes. And, she is proof that it is never too late to get your health and your weight to a better place, as she is 70 years old and looking fabulous.
A Disease That Runs in Her Family
Bates stated in an interview that diabetes actually runs in her family, so she knew that it put her at an even greater risk of being diagnosed with it. After working hard to lose the excess weight, she has found that she is in a much better state of health.
The actress also attributes listening to her body as a key component of her weight loss journey. She realized that, in the half hour after eating, her brain and her stomach were communicating with one another to establish whether or not she was full. When she would move the dish of food away from her, for even just a few minutes, she found that she actually didn’t want anymore. This tactic, of listening to her body’s cues about hunger and fullness, helped her reduce how much she ate at every meal.
It’s also worth noting that Bates has defeated cancer two times in the past, and the weight loss also had a positive impact on the lymphedema that she experienced after surgery. So, beyond feeling better overall, her weight loss has helped her in other ways. She’s definitely an inspiration to us all!
